Clinical and Translational Research Funding Programs

"I received much-needed seed funding through the ICTS to develop a promising cancer therapy, with clinical trials now on the horizon." - Todd Fehniger, MD, PhD

The Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences (ICTS) supports several internal grant funding programs promoting research in clinical and/or translational science. The Institute especially wants to:

  • Promote novel and innovative translational research
  • Support the formation of interdisciplinary research groups to promote translational science from novel perspectives
  • Assist pilot awardees to complete their projects and to advance their research findings to the next translational research step
  • Promote interactions between clinical and basic scientists; between investigators from different schools within Washington University and our academic partners as well as different academic departments and disciplines
  • Promote research by new investigators and junior faculty
  • Support collaborations with community organizations
  • Promote research that supports the current ICTS research themes, namely to:
    • Translate the findings of genetic/genomis research into clinical practice
    • Accelerate the development and evaluation of new therapeutics
    • Support comparative effectiveness and dissemination and implementation research to improve the transfer of clinical research discoveries into practice
