Eric Lenze, MD (Psychiatry) has moved findings from multiple JIT projects and funding through a 2015 CTRFP Funding Program Pilot award to direct multicenter clinical trials assisted by the NCATS Trial Innovation Network. Patty Cavazos-Rehg, PhD (Psychiatry), a 2007-2009 KL2 Career Development Scholar alumna, established her independent career understanding how policy and social media shape risky health behaviors amongst youth through ICTS support. Nancy Tye-Murray, PhD (Otolaryngology) used CTRFP funding and an ICTS-supported LEAP Challenge grant in 2015 to identify markets and plug into the StL entrepreneurial community to launch the clEAR start-up. clEAR is an Internet business that provides customized auditory training exercises for people with hearing loss through engaging computer games. Peter Nagele, MD, was enrolled in the Postdoctoral Mentored Training Program in Clinical Investigation (MTPCI) as an instructor in 2007, promoted to Assistant Professor in July 2008, and subsequently developed into an independent investigator in 2015 (R01). In 2010, he was funded under the K23 program through the National Institute of General Medical Sciences. Dr. Nagele, an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, now serves as Chief of Trauma Anesthesiology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Ana Maria Arbelaez, MD, MSCI (Pediatrics), used the Mentored Training Program in Clinical Investigation (MTPCI) and the KL2 Scholar programs on her career pathway to independent investigator status. She now serves as Associate Director of the TL1 Predoctoral Interdisciplinary Training Program (ICTS TL1 grant) and has recently been appointed as interim Chief of the Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Division. The Dissemination & Implementation Research Core (DIRC), directed by Enola Proctor, PhD, MSW, has contributed locally and nationally in dissemination and implementation science and in training. The core was established to help investigators "design for dissemination" by moving evidence-based practices to real-world use. Learn how the core and its director speed the adoption and delivery of routine medical care and help reduce disparities in health care delivery. 2012 SPIRiT Pilot awardee, Daniel Ory, MD, moved a newly approved FDA-therapy to Phase 2b/3 clinical trials for Niemann-Pick type C1 (NPC1) disease. The research was featured in an NCATS Information release highlighting the Therapeutics for Rare and Neglected Diseases (TRND) Program and a recent paper describing the process for fostering collaborative research for rare genetic diseases modeling the NPC1 experience.

Leveraging 2011 Pilot funding and a 2016 JIT award to use services from the Regulatory Support Center (RSC) , Fumihiko Urano, MD, PhD, secured IND approval for the use of dantrolene sodium in treatment of Wolfram Syndrome treatment. The first patients were enrolled in the Dantrolene Clinical Trial -- NCT02829268 in Feb 2017.
